Camping in the Limousin
The Limousin is a region in France where you do not yet stumble over the tourists. Many people pass by, often on their way to the Dordogne, just south of it. But if you can appreciate the vastness, tranquility and lots of nature, then the Limousin might be something for you.
The Limousin is less than 800 kilometers from the the ferry at Calais. The landscape is hilly with some low mountains here and there, very green, and excellent for walking, cycling or driving around by car. You can visit the Plateau de Millevaches nature park, a relatively high altitude area with many rivers and ponds. There is also the Lac de Vassivière , where you can enjoy water sports. Or take a look at the Tours de Merle, the imposing ruins of a medieval castle from the twelfth century. You will find it on the southern border of the Corrèze, in a bend of the river La Maronne.
On the south side, the area is bordered by the Dordogne river. There you can visit Argentat in the Corrèze, for example, a charming old river town.
